Pretty much what's already been said here, but I also think that private servers are still worth it. Sure, iRO is free now (with very severe restrictions on what you can and can't do, so you still pretty much have to pay to win the game), but those with true passion and innovation can make a server that will completely recreate the feeling of RO. That's what we're trying to do with ours. So many things can be done with scripting and modifications that the possibilities are almost unlimited, you just have to have the right team to bring it out. New story lines, content, explorable worlds and so much more. All of these things can be brought out with the right minds working together, and I think, along with nostalgia, is what keeps players around. The next best thing. What will the next server come up with? How will my experience differ? If they weren't even slightly interested in that server advertising, "UNIQUE PVP AREAS," then no one would still be playing. I guess it's just all about the curiosity. It was always a mixture for me, curiosity and nostalgia. Not to mention, I don't know about anyone else, but I get a very high sense of satisfaction from what I do. I work with customer service in real life, and I just love working with players as well. I love working my tush off to bring them the next best thing, discussing mechanics and inventing new ways to do things. I also just love the old-fashioned feel of being on a staff and connecting with people, helping people. Though, that's just me, I've always been told that my philosophy on administrating was a tad cheesy. BUT ANYWAYS. That's just my two cents.3 points

Hello everyone! I figured I'd just make one of these threads that I have as my official free 'map' thread. Listed below is some maps I've done that are free to the public. I do not wish for them to be edited, but they ARE free and you are free to edit them. You are ALSO free to contact me if you need something edited specifically for your server from these maps. CREDITS would be awesome and please do NOT take credit for my work. It's bothersome and makes me a very sad panda ;~; Also you guys are more than free to add me on Facebook. There are maps uploaded onto my facebook that are not uploaded onto RMS/rA/eA. Also there will be constant updates for when I map. A little bit about this map. It was created specifically for a Lunar Event for a server I worked on not that long ago. Unfortunately it never got used so I'm releasing it to the public to do with it what you wish. I hope you like it and please report if you are having any issues. Please note that if your RO is not up to date you may not see the Red Carpet in the main part of the temple, if you decide to use the inside maps. Album of Lunar Map: Click here! Please note that the Album shows for Hallow Town and the Vending map that I had planned on doing, unfortunately the Vending Map is no where near complete, but you can view what I had started doing. Album of Ilyo Kwan: Click Here! Download Link:Click Here! A little bit about this map, I made it for a server a little over a year ago. It was supposed to be kitty themed for events, there are no indoors maps at this time although i'd love to, at one point, make the indoors maps. The map HASNT been used yet, so if you find any glitches feel free to let me know. Two things that was asked of me for this map was an area for weddings and a 'gm only' area. Thats what the two paws are for, you can walk through the water to the wedding area but only GMs will be able to warp to the other paw, unless players get lucky with Fwings. =] Hope you guys like it. Album of Neko Isle: Click Here! Download link Click Here! Lemme know what you're using it for! Hope you guys like it, please feel free to report any bugs. :3 Also it would be awesome if you would please give credits2 points

It came to my attention just recently that various server owners are in the same position as I. Many mid and high rate servers have items that they wish to drop at a lower than minimum drop rate. For instance, On iHeart-RO our minimum drop is 30%. Some items I want to drop at 1 and 2 percent, however this is impossible due to rate scaling. That is where this system comes in: I personally believe this should be commited to the server source if it would have enough use in the community. I want the opinion of other devs and the community. Thanks to Ind for making this useful system. Please reply with a vote and your reasoning.1 point

I find them worth it. Because of the dream, THE DREAM MAN! ;A; No but really, I enjoy working on a server because I always think about ways I could make it different and better. I like to play other MMOs as well, but I always think certain things suck (Mabinogi's community totally dependent on cash items, think about free mounts, the graphics could be improved dramatically, plus other modifications I'm sure; Perfect World International is too linear and quest based, not only that but I don't like seeing the same mob everywhere, just with a different level or color, mounts are just plain ugly, free cash items would be pretty epic, so again, could be improved dramatically), and of course the developers aren't going to listen to you (and sometimes for good reason), and that's when I think about the things I could do to the game. I always come back to RO because seriously, have you seen the emulators for the other games? What they use is either crap (I saw one was Java for Maplestory, ugh, let my RAM live please), too complex, doesn't work, is full of bugs, etc. etc. Or of course, they don't exist yet. I would love a Mabinogi emulator, as I'm sure anyone else would, but Nexon has already covered their arses (to put it simply) so most likely that won't be happening. But, even if one was successfully created, and the developers weren't scared off by Mr. Jung Hooie, I would still most likely prefer RO over it, because of nostalgia. It was pretty much the first game I had ever played (I don't remember if I had played other games before it, possibly FFX-2 but most likely not), and my first MMO, so I really enjoyed it. (Oh wait, I forgot when my brother let me play his Pokemon Yellow when I was little 8D PIKACHU <3 *Ahem* So it was the first MMO I had ever played.) So true.1 point

Just a note, "," should be "WHERE": query_sql "UPDATE `fishladder` SET `score` = `score` + "+ .@amt*2 +",`char_id` = "+getcharid(0); I think you can optimize the sql request: query_sql("INSERT INTO `fishladder` (char_id,`name`,score) VALUES ("+getcharid(0)+",'"+escape_sql(strcharinfo(0))+"',"+ .@amt*2 +") ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE `score`=`score` + "+ .@amt*2 );1 point

'escape_sql()' is used on string variables, like '@password$', you want to use within the 'query_sql()' command Whenever you let the user provide information that will be used in the database, you should escape it. What it does: It makes sure the input is safe from injections, more info on wikipedia Example: The user inputs: Injecting code "+DELETE...+" escape_sql("Injecting code "+DELETE...+""); And it will become: Injecting code "+DELETE...+" And if you have a bug, you should provide more information regarding the bug.1 point

^ the 'countitem' needs to be outside the string and concatenated in. Or else your query will just be: UPDATE table SET points = points + countitem(FISHID) WHERE ... I Suggest to use "Replace" instead of checking row exsit and Update or Insert it. (If you have an primary key like char_id in this case.) query_sql "REPLACE INTO `fishladder` SET `score` = `score` + "+.@amt+",`char_id` = "+getcharid(0)+"";1 point

I think it would be more flexible, if it would work this way: 2115,1 would make valkyrie shield is not effected by drop rate, so you can use the full scale (from 0,01% to 100%). The original idea would force that, every mob has to drop that item with the SAME chance. However this way the same item can be dropped with different chances from different mobs.1 point

A bit off topic, but the easiest way to track abusers is to use some kind of shield/anti-cheat software/addon with Hardware ID recognition. Doing it by IP (or IP-range, which is essentialy how ip-geolocation works) won't be reliable anyway, so it looks like a waste of time to me.1 point

Well, you probably heard of this, but RO tends to attract old players back somehow... I agree it may be related to nostalgia--you want to play with friends once again, or that you played other games but always find RO to be the best in the end (due to the gameplay, way of community communication, etc). I find RO to be simpler and easier to handle than some of the other games out there (like Perfect World, which really has amazing graphics), and that's the style of games I enjoy playing (RO, Gunbound, etc). I'm pretty sure private servers are worth it. They're worth the experience at least, to be a player, a GM, and/or an Administrator. And for those who want to recreate a server (not their first time managing the server), as long as you have the motivation to see your work through, then you should try it. It may be discouraging at first, but if you really improve the server and keep updating it, the fruits of your results will be yours for the taking (satisfcation mainly). The reason I became an Administrator before was for my friends, so I managed the server for the moment, experience, and memories that form. Even when I see a new player joining a server, I feel pretty content about it. "At least someone is trying out my work." You'll only grow from here.1 point

The file for the .bmp entry if you right-click > "View" is num2cardillustnametable.txt "À̸§¾ø´ÂÄ«µå" is the entry for the resnametables, which Triper mentioned already, which shows the sprite of the card, same for every card, except you wanna use a special one. carditemnametable.txt is (in my opinion) a referance for the client how to deal with that item. Just put the ID and an "#" like the ones above. Here is an example of one my cards: I hope I was able to help . Regards, Chris1 point

private servers are all the same and people just pile up at whatever server they didnt get banned from yet.1 point

Almost everything I thought of has been mentioned, but to add on to the rest: When the first screen that meets you on a website is a "please register to see anything regarding the server" Badly developed systems such as: WOE malfunctioning Misplaced NPCs Quests ending in nowhere or unsolvable Events crashing Or when a GM randomly throws a @reloadscript when you almost killed a MVP, old classic haha1 point
