  1. Hey guys, I've just upgraded our forum to 3.4.7 (latest, including vulnerability fixes) and fixed a few other issues along the way, such as: Blog view count is now updating correctly (@nanakiwurtz will love me forever) IP.Nexus will no longer give members that silly "field is required" error when attempting to purchase files I've also updated the webserver packages and provisioned more RAM. We were beginning to hit the 3GB out of the 4GB it had, so i've gotten us 8GB to play with now. If something doesn't work as it did before the update, please let me know by replying to this thread. For sensitive things, my PM box is always open and I'll get back to you as quickly as i can.
  2. Sometimes i wonder if there's too many RO servers out there. It kinda dilutes the "market" and causes nearly all of them to have the same features as everyone else, then bitchez be posting on these boards "ei, how 2 maek mi servr da bestest?!". Like seriously. Is it just me? Does anyone wonder what kind of private RO servers would be around if 40% of the current server "owners" joined forces, pooled their resources and produced epic game content? Sometimes i also wonder if we've made things far too accessible. But i guess spoon-feeding is the way forward, right? /sigh
  3. Afternoon all! I would like to inform all users that the Bug Tracker on our forum will no longer accept new reports. We will in stead make use of Github's "Issue" platform. All reports can still be replied to by members and devs, but no new bug reports can be created. The change stems from compatibility testing IPS 4.0.0 Beta over the last few days, which has provided mixed results. IPBWiki will also be adversely affected by the upgrade which will occur within the next few months. Issues are much like the bug reports on the rA forums, but similar in design to Pull Requests (except commits) for the actual interface. Issues can be seen here or by clicking "Issues" on the right-side menu when viewing the main repo. This also calls for new bbcode, similar to the current git, hash and pull tags, this translates to: Issue:#97 [issue=97] For those interested in the inner-workings of Issues, you can read the Github Guide to find out what it's capable of and how the Issues platform integrates with Commits and Pull Requests.
  4. Evening all! As some of you have already noticed, i've made a few changes to the way you guys can donate to rAthena. The donation button on the right side of the main board index has been removed and replaced with a "Package" in the new rAthena Store. This new process will help to manage donations much more efficiently than the more recent method, as i am fully aware how long it can take to get a response from an Admin regarding group changes. It is now automatic. If you've visited the Store within the last few hours you may have also noticed another package called Banner Advert. We are introducing banner advertisements at the top of all forum pages. Please read the product description for full details. You can access the store from the Community tab on the navigation bar: Don't forget, all members of staff should have a Paypal button on their own forum profile should you wish to donate to them directly.
  5. The amount of times i have to do this is unreal. Please, if you're going to setup your own hosting "company", please atleast purchase the correct licenses for what you're using. It's not difficult!
  6. Morning all! I apologise for the delay in getting rAthena's forums back online, there were a few technical issues that arose which prevented the servers from booting. These issues are now remedied and we are back online with no data-loss.
  7. Evening All! As the school-goers of our community are about to finish off their exams for the year, now is an ideal time to submit your applications to become a member of our team! The following is a list of positions that are open and available for filling right now! Development Positions (Special requirements apply): Core Developer The Core Developer mainly works out of the /src directory, providing C programming experience to the emulator. They do a number of fixes or additions that effect the operation of the emulator. * A core developer must be proficient in C and have some sort of experience with C programming. Supporting Developer The Supporting Developer is a special development position mostly associated with our Bug Tracker. They are a team of devs that go out of their way to break rAthena so they can create Bug Reports. They also provide the occasional fix, too! * Coding experience in C is a plus, but not essential for this role. * Good English typing skills are required to fill out concise reports. * Bug Tracker Lv2 badge. Script/DB Developer The Script/DB Developer is responsible for managing, fixing, and writing new scripts and database entries. These could be taken from iRO or kRO sources. * A script/DB developer must know the rAthena scripting language intimately. * Bonus if you know the aegis scripting language. Document Developer The Document Developer is responsible for the upkeep of the documentation (/doc directory) as well as the upkeep of the documentation on the wiki. They also provide formatted code documentation within our source code for use with Doxygen. * The Document Developer must know the inner workings of rAthena. * Applicant must be able to type fluent English. Forum Moderator Positions Global Moderator The Global Moderator takes direction from the Community Manager to moderate all forums on the support board. They have the second-to-final say on what happens with moderation (next to the Community Manager). * This role can only be applied for by current staff. Support Leader The Support Leader is in charge of the support sections, provides moderation and support to members running rAthena or any similar emulators (eAthena and 3ceam typically fall under this). They will also be willing to write occasionally in the wiki about the installation and configuration of the emulator. Scripting Moderator The Scripting Moderator takes charge over the scripting sections of the forums. They are considered experts in rAthena scripting and also have moderation powers over the scripting sections to help keep it clean. Graphics Moderator The Graphics Moderator Takes charge over the graphics area of the IP.Downloads installation. They should have a knowledge of spriting, mapping, colouring, or anything involving RO graphics. They also moderate the Arts & Writings forum and the Graphic Enhancements forums. International Moderator (Special requirements apply) The International Moderators take charge over a specific language forum, providing moderation, support and such to the international community where they are most fluent. * An international moderator must be fluent (usually a native) of the language he/she wants to moderate for. * An international moderator must also speak decent to very good English to communicate with the rest of the team as needed. Non-Forum Moderator Positions Wiki Leader The Wiki Leaders take direction from the Document Developer to provide support and write articles on the wiki. All of the above roles can be filled by more than one user, so if you've applied for a position and it was filled by someone else, don't worry! I am adding a maximum turnaround of 2 weeks to all applications. If you don't hear anything after 14 days, it's safe to assume your application was unsuccessful - but don't worry! I will personally be sending out fully formed rejection notices to applicants who have failed to reach the mark by summarising our decision and stating the reasons why. You can then read this notice and make the necessary changes in order to try and change our minds! As always, you may submit your applications to us by clicking on the Staff Applications link in the top navigation bar. I look forward to seeing your applications - good luck!
  8. Hey guys! In about 20 minutes (use this post's timestamp as a reference) i'll be taking the rAthena webserver offline for some quick maintenance updates. No data will be affected. I'll edit this post once it's complete. Thanks. EDIT: Maintenance complete! (Time < 40s)

Evening all! I'm close to finalizing a new project for rAthena but i'm going to get stuck at the last hurdle. I'm in desperate need of anyone who can read/write fluent Korean. Feel free to PM me if you can, as you'd be a life-saver! Please note: If you're going to rely on google translator, then unfortunately you're not quite what i'm looking for. There will be test.. i've had some text translated that can't be translated via an online translator without looking like it was said by a drunkard. P.S. i apologise if the title of this topic appears in in gibberish - it just means you don't have a korean language pack installed. Thanks!
  10. Responsibilities Reporting bugs with as much relevant information as possible. Discuss bug reports with other Supporting and Core Developers to discover the cause of problems. Produce fixes where possible (not a requirement, but it'd be nice if you could <3). Helping other users to create informative bug reports. Additional Permissions Ability to manage the tracker by cleaning up old bug reports, identifying invalid reports and updating the status of such reports to reflect their validity. There are currently no forum moderation permissions available to this role. Requirements Be in possession of the Bug Tracker Lv 2 badge. Applicants should also be willing to test the validity of bug reports using their own test-servers. Anyone wishing to apply for the role should go through the usual channels by creating an application. All applications for this role will be dealt with within a 48 hour window.

So.. yesterday evening my PC's HDD went boom (my bootsector crashed so i have no filesystem, for those that want the techies response). This makes me unhappy.
  12. Afternoon all! I've just read over the iRO patch notes for this week and noticed that Ragnarok Online was entered into a competition on mmobomb.com and is doing rather well. In the next heat in the Rogue Division (where RO is competing in) it's up against Mabinogi, and from what i can see of the comments it looks like it's going to be a close call. How do you guys feel about voting and giving RO a helping hand? Voting for the next heat for the Rogue Division ends on the 21st of March, more details can be seen here: http://www.mmobomb.com/ultimate-f2p-showdown?nxid=10 P.S. iRO are going to provide a double exp event if RO gets through to the next round.. if anyone is playing official servers and want that extra exp boost then forward people you know to the above link!
  13. Evening all! So, earlier this evening i was having a conversation with Nanakiwurtz and Sandbox about Voting Sites, which reminded me that i'd begun to develop a voting site around this time two years ago. So naturally i bought a domain name, threw my code to my webspace and started to overhaul the functions. Now i need testers. I need as many testers as possible and the first 5 people that PM me offering their help will get premium status on the site, just to say thanks P.S. I need you to PM me offering to help, not reply to this topic. I need testers who can read ._.;
  14. Afternoon all! I've just flicked a switch that will allow all commit info to be output to our IRC channel #rathena. In addition to this, i have also enabled Pull Request output to be sent there too: In theory, this will allow our devs who idle in the channel to quickly and easily review Pull Requests, as well as allow others who are in the channel to see what's going on by clicking the links provided by the IRC bot. As always, Pull Requests are greatly appreciated! (Note: the above image will differ depending on your IRC client and/or your theme)
  15. Evening all! I'm pleased to announce that the Community Manager position has now been filled by Xynvaroth. In addition to his duties as a Global Moderator, Xynvaroth has shown a good deal of initiative towards making the boards a cleaner place to discuss ideas and find information. This decision was made collectively by the Administrators, which shows that his hard work has not gone unnoticed. Congratulations, Xynvaroth! Akky~ P.S. This does also mean that the Global Moderator position is up for grabs by any of our current Moderating team. P.P.S We also have positions available for most International Moderator groups.

  17. File Name: OnPCLogin GM Settings File Submitter: Akkarin File Submitted: 05 Feb 2014 File Category: Utilities Content Author: Akkarin GM Edition! You know when you login to your server that you work on, or even play on, and you always end up typing the same commands each time before you even say hello to anyone? @hide, then @uptime to see when the last reboot was, @rates if you've got fluctuating exp/drop rates, etc etc. @monsterignore in case you're caught off-gaurd and don't want to be seen as the "weak" GM, blah blah blah. With this Settings NPC, a player can set those commands to automatically execute when they login. These are account based, but could easily be modified to char based. Following the general format of the script, it should be easy to add/remove commands from those available to the player. This script is years old, revamped to make it work with recent revisions - i've tested it on both our live server, and my dev server and seems to work.. but if you find any bugs or glitches, or something that could be optimised abit more, please let me know Click here to download this file

  20. Afternoon all! Over the last few days i've been busy putting together a suite of scripts that will help our Devs and the rAthena community in general. We're becoming semi-automated! For around a week or so there has been a cronjob running to download all the latest kRO patches and unpack them. We have a set of parsers that will go over the contents of the new files and output a few strings... which is quite exciting. Why is it exciting? Well, how would you like to see the latest kRO data being committed directly to the rA git repo? Automatic mapcache updates? View the new maps in a live browser-based environment? Yeah, we thought so too This is an example of how the entry will look: For -every- kRO patch there will be a corresponding entry in our new kRO Patch database. Once i'm satisfied that it's all working i shall place a link to it in the header of the forums. What does this mean for our members? It means that if the process failed to produce a valid commit, or the pull request failed then all the data will be output to the entry in the database, allowing anyone to add the code to their fork, test, then create their own pull request which will be looked at by our devs. Why are we doing this? The method of development and the general mindset of every *athena community is "devs y u no add dis yet? c'mon man iz in kro 4 lyk 2 years!" - and it needs to stop. The general consensus is that new stuff only gets added by devs, because they're not lazy. I'm implementing a system where we cut out the waiting time, and the support requests, and the bugs, and the attitude. Relying on Devs to input data is a draconian method that i've been used to since my first p.serv running on applemod.. waaaaaay back when, and the mindset of users hasn't changed. We even moved to Git which allows users to add changes and upload new content, but those pull requests are still a little sparse. More details on exactly how much data gets parsed and what we're going to do with it will be released over the course of the weekend, by which time this project will be complete.
  21. Evening all! In an effort to assist users with scripting their NPCs, and to help keep their paste's safe from prying eyes, i've setup a Pastebin within our forums. What's so different about our Pastebin, i hear you say? Well, not only do we have the Athena Scripting Language installed for syntax highlighting, we also have function linking to our wiki! For an example of this, see [paste=2899d724exg2]. This also brings a new bbcode to the board: [paste=2899d724exg2] I'm in the process of modifying it even further to incorporate NPC script debugging, which will be made available to the public soon. A Pastebin link has been added to our header. If you find any issues with this new system, please get in touch! Akkarin~

Thankfully we don't have many of these anymore
  23. Evening all! Just a quick update - i've added a new custom profile field that you can fill in either when registering or on the "Edit Profile" page. If you have a github username it'd be great if you could fill this field in, as when you make any posts in the forums it'll show just above any awards/badges you have. Your Github username is also a link to your Github profile. This helps the community in knowing a little bit more about how you help rAthena
  24. Evening all, Through boredom and a desire not to do what I'm supposed to be doing, I've created a simple database and page to replace the current badge nominations topic in an effort to keep things tidy. You will find a link under the Community Menu in the header which takes you to a list of nominations. If there are any open nominations that haven't been approved by an Admin, Manager or Global Moderator, a new box will appear on the right-hand side of the main forum page under the Wiki box. If you know of someone that deserves any of our badges, why not go ahead and nominate them!
