Are you not using rAthena? Are you not using the newer clients? Because if you are, for both, then you need the birthday field because deleting chars no longer use emails. And for security purposes, it's WAY BETTER to use birthdays rather then just leaving it as 0000-00-00 because anyone would be able to delete chars (hackers) if they get a hold of someone's account.
