Hello,

I have a VPS and I was using it for my game and recently i removed my partner for some reasons. He said he has put up worms in my VPS which will delete all my files. Is their any way to remove it or detect it ? I don't want to format or reinstall my VPS as I will still have to use same files which might have worms too. So I want a method to remove the worms. Please help me..

Thanks.,

are you sure it has virus/worms already?

my advice prepare your personal computer/laptop update antivirus then backup all the files from your vps (you will know if your files from the vps is infected if you can't even backup/copy them on your personal computer/laptop which the Antivirus will detect) and wait for the worm/virus that your friend is saying if it's true., though I doubt it's true. he's just scaring you.

i dont think he did, he more than likely use a rm -rf command to remove those file, best way to make sure ask ur vps hosting company to run one of there backup and if they dont have one ask them to do a scan for you.

Hi laklaker,

The highly recommended programs for virus/worm/rootkit removal for Linux are; RKHunter, ChkRootKit, and Rootcheck.

RKHunter: http://www.rootkit.nl/projects/rootkit_hunter.html

ChkRootKit: http://www.chkrootkit.org/

Rootcheck: http://www.ossec.net/main/rootcheck

It would be hard for me to explain into detail on how to install/use each of the listed software, because I do not know what kind of Linux Distro you are using. But if you use Google, you can easily find guides on how to install and use each one.
