Hello

Ok, this is a suggestion, sorry if this topic does not go here >< I could not find the right forum.

what think the Developers about security in rAthena?

I'm talking about WPE/Rpe, Macro and bot system that affects a lots of servers.

Most Developers say that we have to take own system but we AREN'T developers and most of us can not pay for a system anti bot/wpe/macro.

optimization and security is always a key in these kinds of things and rAthena may take a advantage on eathena.

thanks

I think this is unnecessary work for the Developers. It is not their job to provide security measures for you to protect your own server.

Well, I agree with Arcenciel. The owners are responsible for themselves when it comes to servers. The developers responsibility is only to build it and (optimize it) and don't build bugs into it. If the system he build is abuseable then he either did it wrong or Gravity did it wrong. That, then, is the developers problems. But in the current state I am not sure if it up to the developers or the owners.

do you think the system would be secure if the code would be available to public? /no1

curious about it also, but then if people know about the code and dig into it, won't this be kind of useless again?

IMO at the moment it is not worth doing it. For those who want to protect their servers, there are paid solutions that do their job decently. This is harsh, but if you can't afford, it's not developers' fault.

Most vulnerabilities can't be closed efficiently if you don't protect the game client too. It's not our job to fix Gravity's client.

If there ever will be a decent opensource RO client, then we should reconsider providing security measures in conjunction with said client.

Well, some of the protection needs/should be on the client side, it is hard/impossible to make a proper server side only solution to protect servers from wpe/rpe/macros. Moreover, once we implement something, since rA is open source, it will be easy for everybody to analyze the code, and search for a workaround.
