Hi,

We've purchased an ubuntu dedicated server. So it's on 64bit since it has 16GB ram. I've installed ubuntu-desktop and xrdp. I am trying to connect to it using the RDP from my windows 7 local PC.

I am getting this error

NRvY5.png

Any idea why? I know I can just use putty and type tons of commands to configure my server but work would be easier for me to use a GUI.

I know I can just use windows if I want a GUI, but linux uses less resources even if it has the gui than windows with all the craps removed.

Anyone could help?

Windows' RDC is only used for Windows to Windows OS remote connection.

If you want to remotely connect to your Ubuntu server you can use VNC as your remote desktop client.

Followed this guide and there are people who said it's working.

Any VNC client you can recommend? and what do I need to install from my ubuntu server so I can use the VNC to connect.

I see..

You should also install a VNC server on your server side as well.

From what I have experienced I used a UltraVNC server for the server side while I use the UltraVNC client to connect.

Appeared to be the hosting company doesn't support ubuntu desktop installed in ubuntu server. So yea, I'll have to stick with commands.

Hi RaGERO,

Uhh, what's the error? I don't see why they would do anything to purposely prevent you from using running Gnome + VNCServer.

Xorlog states that some 'screen' configurations doesn't support running the gnome desktop, even KDE's. So I have to reload the OS again to get a clean setup and then just use commands in setting up my server.
