Unfortunately, there isn't really much you can do. You can check out some hosts that offer DDoS protection, iirc Asura Hosting is good for this.

Hey guys, I've been trying to help a friend of mine connect to my server. I've 1) Made him download my Full Installer 2) Sent him my up to date GRF 3) Sent him my client I've verified that he has all of the same files as me via md5, yet his client still crashes on start with (Client.exe has stopped working). Any idea what might be causing this? Thanks!

Should I add portflood for every single inbound tcp/udp port? That's what I've done and he is still DDoSing me. 25;tcp;50;5; etc. Should I use different timings? Probably just going to end up switching to a host that offers DDoS protection. Oh well.

I run a dedicated server and my host is aware. I've configured CSF and the attacks seemed to have stopped (for now). Thanks Asura! Edit: Just got DDoS'd again. I added all of the IPs to the csf.deny and changed the ports so that it blocks all UDP ports except a few.

Wouldn't he just target the unblocked port? He can find the port via clientinfo.xml or anything really. Sorry if that's a dumb statement, I've never really used this type of software before. Edit: I've edited the configureation file for csf and started the daemon. I don't have it set to allow ports 5900, 6900 or 5121, but I'm still able to connect while eAthena is running.

Turns out its a botnet. He DDoS' my server every few minutes which halts it for about 40 seconds. packet_athena.conf is configured correctly. It's not just from one IP, it's from a ton. It's a UDP flood on port 5121. I'm not too familiar with DDoS, can he just ddos any open port? Here is an example: http://pastebin.com/1NCDchwZ

Someone is DDoSing my server, I'm 100% sure of it. What can I do to prevent this? I've already opened a ticket with my host.

I have two instances of eAthena running on my dedicated server. Because ./athena-start stop would actually terminate both of the server when I ran the command, I had to adjust athena-start to give them different names, and changed map-server_sql etc to map-test_sql. However, when recompiling the server, it still compiles the file to map-server_sql, instead of map-test_sql. Where can I change this? Thanks! Edit: This should probably be in server support, my mistake!

One of my players keeps crashing. This problem is unlike anything that I've seen before. He installed the full installer (very up to date), and still seems to error. I've noticed that his computer apparently doesn't allow thor patcher to download files into the GRF, so I manually sent him all of my GRFs. The data folder wasn't an issue because we don't use it for anything, and there were no amendments to the data folder between the release of the full installer and the latest patch. Also, I should note that he has sent me 20 different crashlogs, and sometimes they appear to be clean (i.e no sprites fail). Any idea what the problem is? He has tried reinstalling multiple times, running as administrator, turning off antiviruses, but they have been to no avail. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

Assuming it's a new installation, drop your cp_* tables and try again.
