F-URL Suggestion

IPB 3.0 Above now uses New Structure of URL

but if eAthena will use its kinda suck because the URL Depends with the Topic Title and its Post #

so im here to suggest to use the old URL Structure since its better and not crappy to see

For Example

this URL came from

http://eathena.sourceforge.net/board/index.php/topic/53335-renewal-client-requesting-thread/

if we use the old URL Structure

the link above this will look like this

or

http://eathena.sourceforge.net/board/index.php?showtopic=53335

Shortening the Link is better

IPB 3.0+ can use old F-URL

its just easy modification

I kind of agree, the urls are incredibly long, especially since we've already increased the domain name by about 10 chars...

I believe it's an either or, but the data works for either or...

notice currently, board/topic/53336-f-url-suggestion... // 53336 is already a UNIQUE identifier (by topic id) why would TOPIC NAME be needed as well... what this mod does, is remove TOPIC NAME and replace it by calling a PHP variable ?showtopic=TOPIC_ID

shouldn't hurt anything we currently have (and should be easily reversible)

you can enable both ways

but problem is when you click the Topic in the forum

the URL that will be used or will be see is the long one

but you can use the short one

Yes, you can change the way it displays in the above... however, either method is valid and will not harm the other and both can be used

and it rocks

since sometimes my players posting topics with long titles

and it sucks to send the link to others because its too long~

@KeiKun: if you know the format of the old urls, you can still use them and IPB will redirect the user to the new format.

When possibly, I recommend using the BBCode

That way, if our forum URL changes we just re-cache all the posts and the BBCodes links are automatically updated.
