Difference of item(.spr and .act) for drop and gender folders

Hi, I'm kinda new in adding custom items for my fun only server. I noticed one time when I forgot to add .act/.spr (downloaded them) to the drop folder in the sprite folder, I had error when I clicked the item. May I ask what's the difference between the .act/.spr for male/female folders and .act/.spr for drop? I'm still unfamiliar with sprites so any detailed explanation will be most helpful to me...THX n Advance!

The 'drop' sprite is rendered when the item is dropped on the ground. The actor item sprite(male/female folder) is used to render the item on top of the actor(the character).

ohhh i see....so does that mean that the drop sprite is like one of the parts of the gender sprites??? or depends on the creator??
