When I first joined eAthena back in 2008 it was my own endeavor. I wanted to make a Ragnarok server to prove that I could. It took forever but eventually I did it! But unfortunately I lacked the knowledge and funds to keep it alive. So in the end it die. About a month later I was contacted by a member of my previous server. He wanted me to be a developer for his server while the old developer was away. I accepted without giving it to much thought. When the old developer returned from his hiatus. I knew almost nothing about the intricacies of RO and my scripting abilities were basic at best. He didn't like me very much. We got into arguments... Sometime during his return we hired in a GM. Eventually he was removed from the scene completely. It turns out the GM we hired was far better than me at pretty much everything. A few months passed. Simply out of boredom she decided to release vital information to our server. Also in the process persuaded a different GM to use the information and attack the server directly. I was able to maintain the situation... But over time the server died anyways. Honestly I didn't hold anything against her. Without a server to monitor, my focus switched to eAthena. Here In the pursuit of knowledge I turned to the script request section. While helping to the extent that I could. People from all over asked for requests. I was frustrated by the many requests that I couldn't solve. So I turned to the only person I knew that had more experience then me. To my surprise the GM from my former server, the very same one that practically destroyed it never turn down my requests. Everytime I handed her something she would return it optimized and answer any questions I had. (Maybe she felt it was a challenge.) This is where I learned about loops and arrays as for a few other concepts that I didn't quite understand at the time. Maybe I wanted to beat or impress her, but I wanted to share what I knew regardless. I spent a large amount of the next few years helping people on the forums. Until one day a came to realize there were less and less posts in the script requests section of eAthena. At the time I didn't really care to much about RO and didn't really know anything about what was happening to the forums. Eventually I went exploring and came across rAthena. It seemed like the community had acquired a new life. I guess the rest is still within the archives of this forums. (I'm to lazy to keep writing.) End verdict... We have our own goals. Disclaimer: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sorry if this isn't the best read ever. It's certainly not formal in anyway and it's super trimmed. I just wanted to write it down once. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I'm kinda stuck in my own paradox of wanting to help everyone but in doing so unable to help anyone. Ultimately I think something needs to change and maybe this is it. Goodluck, everyone, stay golden.
