Back to xAthena: Need some advice

Good morning all:

 

I left the RO servers for a couple of years and now i'm trying to help a friend to get one running, but i have some questions with all this "eAthena" "rAthena" stuff.

 

1.- Are renewal clients backwards compatible?

2.- If i want to do a "old" server (pre-renewal), should i use eAthena or rAthena?

3.- Does rAthena includes all the renewal mechanics by default or i can disable it and keep all the pre stuff without having to heavily modify the source?

3.- Can i use a renewal client on a eAthena server?

 

Right now i was able to use a renewal client in a rAthena server (last trunk) but i see a lot of the new hats and maps and i don't want the players to be able to access renewal stuff.

 

Also, wich one should be the recommended client for this kind of server (someone said it was 2010-07-30)?
