I think you know yourself that it was na bad thing and you should not do it again. Your map is really good, however I would suggest you, to do something to the edges of your maps. From my point of view, the edges do not match with the map, it looks strange that it goes right into the sky. If I would have to edit it, I would add a ,,boarder decoration" to it and make the map higher, so that the sky looks farther away, like you did with the boarders in your 5th picture.
