XAMPP vs MySQL Server

I was wondering if XAMPP could be used as a replacement for MySQL Server? I'm trying to use MySQL Server 5.5 and MySQL Workbench but for some reason, it wouldn't work for me. As for XAMPP, I've been using it for years and it doesn't fail me.

 

I'm always having the error "Can't connect to 127.0.0.1:3306 (10061)" whenever I start connecting using MySQL Workbench.

yes you can,
delete your MySQL but just install XAMPP

 

if you want a MySQL interface? just download MySQL query browser

I was able to make my MySQL server work. Now I'm having a hard time accessing this website: http://k3dt.eu/Ragexe/ - anyone else?
