Hi Rathena community,

For those of you that are programmers/developers/engineers, do you know if it would be acceptable to write down RO as an open-source project on a resume? Or rather, would this be presentable to companies if I were to go to an interview at a programming company (possibly high-tech). I remember reading somewhere that it is illegal to hex the clients for RO and allow others to access your servers (though this is required if you're going to open the server and allow others to play on it), so would this look bad? I'm just curious :)

BTW, I'm a undergraduate student who is looking for open source software to work on. does anyone have any suggestions?

I did that, but only when I was applying for my internship, I don't think that would count for professional work, UNLESS you created YOUR OWN CODES, MODIFICATIONS and ADDONS not only plain scripts.

I mean if I made modifications to the source code. NPC scripting wouldn't count as an applicable skill. I plan on applying to an intern ship as well!

If u began a new emulator such as rathena or hercules with its own working source and make it open source and make it work without crashing then thats a huge plus to ur resume i think.

I do have some code snippets in my portfolio relating to Ragnarok Online... My professor happened to know of RO/Athena and also was a self proclaimed "geek" so that was fun. Needless to say I passed the final exam with a 97%. If you're doing something like Scripting/Programming/Game Development I think you could defiantly use materials you create for this community and apply them to real life applications... Just take the core elements like Arrays/Trees/Bitwise mumbo-jumbo that most languages posses and present them in creative ways that illustrates your overall knowledge of the art. With that being said I think it's also important to have a broad knowledge in other things as well don't just center the entire thing around Ragnarok Online. :P
