CentOS VPS

Hi. I'm planning to use CentOS as my VPS for my server. Basically i dont know how to use Linux even installing anything. Everyone knows that Linux VPS is a cheap one so i choose this. Can anyone teach me on how to put my server in a linux vps? Also on how to put mysql? Thanks for those who are willing to help

Hi rexxar31,

As mleo1 has already stated, there are guides already available for people to learn how to use Linux in hosting their rAthena Project. But I'd like to add this guide I found, it enables you to have a desktop interface for easier use; so it's closer to what you are use to (i.e. - Windows/Apple).

If compared to windows, what is its advantages and disadvantages? Is CENTOS/LINUX hard to manage for newbies?

Hi emong,

Linux is better than Windows in terms of hosting an RO server. It's easier to perform backups, saves on RAM/CPU resources, allows a lot more functionality, and is a very barebone operating system. Windows is easier to use for users who are not familiar with Linux.

my mysql server loads up to 300m, lol, (it was not like this before, the host edited something and it runs now at this)

i only got 512m,

Rathena does give support to Linux, but I more preferred Windows.

Use WinSCP; or any SFTP Client.

i cant use @reloadscript or @loadnpc when i use linux vps. i update my npc but when i try to use @loadnpc or @reloadscript nothing happens, no additional npc at all. all i can do is to restart the server over and over again..

Choosing CentOS is a very good decision. I followed this guide Installation_on_CentOS to setup rAthena in my VPS. Following the guide you can easily setup your server. CentOS is more flexible and secure than Windows.
