New Feature Possibilities for BrowEdit 2.0

  • Multi-User Share Mapping (Multiple users working on the same map in real-time)

What an amazing feature. There are a lot of possibilities with this, for ex. Making a custom world map release, created and maintaned by a group of mappers. Expanding the world With new fields/dungeons levels progresive updates every day even.

It will be like a cooperative work, just like how the emu is maintaned with the SVN. Not to mention how great a map would look, by being made of a mix of skills of all the mappers around.

I would sign on this... but, I can't code those languages.

Anyway any people interested and if they have time, should sign on this project. The whole community will benefit as the example I said. Not to mention, all other possibilities.

Edit: Btw, Syouji, it wouldn't be better if you move this one on the -projects- forum? I think devs are more active on those areas than here.

There is a lot of potential in this new version of BrowEdit. Upon testing it myself, I've noticed a huge difference in performance when it came to both loading a map and navigation. The speed is much faster and the textures/objects/lighting is more smoothed out. The thread has been moved to the project section of the forums.

Like Olrox said, I'd sign on to help as well, but I can't code in those languages either. If he needs people to test at any point, please do toss my name in the hat. I can't even *begin* to express how excited I am for this.

Sounds really promising, but I would recommend you to first build a stable and relatively easy to use editor before you start developing complex features like "Multi-User Share Mapping (Multiple users working on the same map in real-time)".

That particular feature is what Borf came up with himself and plans on doing it after he finishes the important controls. Borf wishes to have someone to help him out for motivational reasons and not wanting to work on something by himself. Until he has some people to help him out, he will be working on non-related ragnarok works. As a side note the multi-user share mapping has already been made before by Borf in another map editor for one of his games called Sagramore. So he already has a layout and understanding of how to do it.

Nice nice, maybe I should start learning mapping. I want to create some maps for my favourite Server, too, but I wasn't able to work with the old Browedit. Hope to see more Updates on this soon.

I registered on this forum solely for the purpose of expressing appreciation, and support.... for the possibility of a new release.

We all know the woes of the 620 revision. (It's still the single most useful mapping program there is, all nonsense aside.)

Being an intermediate mapper, I'm excited.

The new texture panel already makes me feel better.

]]]]]]]]]]]]]*F#@$, passed it.*[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[*oops*]]]]

^Lol, I know everyone won't get that but, eh.

Also, Rikamaru, you should really check out the browedit tutorials by Kiromanas on youtube, they're highly informative, and he explains everything in detail.

I just wished he would've touched a bit more on the .gat features, as they can be confusing for beginners, especially considering there can be a fair bit of scripting involved.

I'd love to help Borf out, but I have only a basic understanding of Java, though I am an intermediary student in C++ and HTML/PHP.

So, I guess when there's a donation link up, I'll do that instead /oops

No one has approached me yet to join Borf's team. So Borf has stopped project development until he gets help. In the mean time, he's working on non-ragnarok related projects.

I have noticed too, Asking for help from the community on complex projects is hard.

there is like 1% that have enough skill to help, and of the ones who can, none want to dedicate time to another project.

same with some of my projects

(plenty of people will happily use the project though)

I would like to share with you all some recent updates on BrowEdit 2.0:

  • Skins can be applied to the program to personalize it
  • Full navigation of camera angle and direction in a map
  • Rendering of Shadows, Objects, Light & Colors, Textures (water not in place yet)
  • Grid view of map complete
  • Client and Server coded into client (communication between users for multi-user support on a single map). Any outgoing data (changes performed on a map between multiple users) is compressed and encoded before the receiver gets the packet of data to minimize as much bandwidth traffic as possible.

After speaking to Borf about multi-language support, this is completely possible. How languages will work will be explained later on once the editor is complete. This will be more of an end feature.
