i meant a client that has all the essential files to play the server with, im mainly confused with making .grfs, and what files to make into grfs

Are you talking about the necessary files needed in the data folder in order for players to connect to your server?

Are you talking about the necessary files needed in the data folder in order for players to connect to your server?

uhh yeaaa! all just all the necessary files a player would need to connect, something like a lite installer you would find in servers

hmm, if you're talking about lite installer

- yourro.grf(if your using .grfs)

- patcher

- data.ini

- client.

I'm not sure about data folder, 'cause I find it easy to use .grfs than the folder.

That's all I can think of right now. Feel free to add if I missed something.

thanks, quick question, but why do some people seperate their sprites and stuff into seperate .grfs?

Probably because it takes too long to read grfs. For example, when it comes to palletes and sprites, in my case, palletes takes longer than sprites to load when editing my grf. Since I edit sprites more than I edit palletes, I will just make another grf for palletes, rather than wait it to load everytime I want to edit my sprites.

extract those sprite / files from your current GRF and and merge it into a new GRF

To get your palettes seperate from your other files open the current GRF you are using with a GRF tool (most prefer GRF Factory, I prefer GRFBuilder) then extract all files to somewhere on your harddrive.

Now cut the palettes folder and place it in a different location (make a new folder on your desktop called 'data' [anything goes really] and place the palettes folder in there using CTRL+V.

Now open said GRF editor again and press 'new' for the name do something clear and simple, for example: dyes.grf

select 'Merge Dir' and select the data folder that contains just the palettes, let it finish and done.

You just seperated the palettes from your other files :D

- This part can be done in 2 ways -

1) Now open the GRF editor again and select 'new' now find your official GRF (yourro.grf) and open it, when prompted to overwrite select yes, now using 'Merge Dir' navigate to the folder that contains the sprites, maps, textures, clientinfo, etc. and merge that into the GRF. Done.

2) Open the GRF editor again and select 'open', open yourro.grf and switch to "treeview" then find the palettes folder and delete that folder.

Done.
