Can I use newer versions of gcc and g++ to compile rAthena?

I'm setting a new server using a Debian OS, but as of 2019, gcc-5 and g++-5 have been removed from the unstable repository. Can I use newer versions or I'll have to compile them from source? Should I just use a different OS?
