Hello :

Description (IroWiki) :

Generates a 3x3 area around the caster that blocks all ranged physical and magical damage. Area will stay centered on the caster even if the player moves.
Applies to the caster and all players/allies/enemies inside the area of effect.

Probem :

- The skill blocks nothing (ranger physical and magical damage are received).
- The 3 x 3 area don't follow the caster if he moves.

Neutral Barrier doesn't immune versus ranged physical attacks.(It must be like a pneuma).

iRO documents also shows players that stand in the AoE have their DEF/MDEF increased by the following formula....

MDEF/DEF increase in %: 10 + 5 * Skill Level


Yes but it seems wrong. When you found video on the web, you can see that long range attack miss the user. If the skill increased the def and mdef, attacks wouldn't miss.

furthermore the IroWiki description says :

The iRO wiki appears to be out of date on things. The Neutral Barrier page was last updated on 14 December 2010 which is before the 2011 balance updates. According to the official 2011 balance documents from iRO...

Skill re-use Delay: (25 - 5 * Skill Level) seconds
Duration: (15 + 15 * Skill Level) seconds
AoE: 5x5
MDEF/DEF increase: (10 + 5 * Skill Level) %
Blocks ranged attacks


The skill re-use delay sounds a bit strange since the duration is much longer then the delay according to the info. That needs a confirm. Might be a catch somewhere and it drains caster's SP during use. I also found this in the wiki....

Blocks damage from Earthquake. Does not block damage from Evil Land.


This is shocking info for me. If its true that its blocking a splash AoE skill like Earthquake, but not ground AoE's like Evil Land, then does this mean Neutral Barrier blocks splash AoE's? Many people complain about how many 3rd job skills are splash and not protected by Land Protector, but if this info is true then omg this is awesome. Wish I could test and confirm this one.


It's the problème with the AoE splash damage, ther are considered like ranged attack. (but not magic attack, it's normal that land protector doesn't work). These attack can be avoid with just a pneuma ...

So, if we take neutral barrier with 3x3 area of effect, it's just like a pneuma which follow the caster.

I think the version from IroWiki is more logical, because with a skill re-use time of 2 minuts, it's impossible to have always the protection. (and it's like the other skills, magnetic field, and Stealth field which are a long re-use delay too).

moreover, when you see videos from the skill on the net, it does not seem to have a scope of 5 x 5, but 3 x 3.

Correct. While most of the info in iRO's released documents are accurate, this doesn't come without human error's. We have to look at them and judge with our minds if it feels right.

This is true, but those video's were most likely made around 2009 or 2010 before kRO's 2011 balance updates. Neutral Barrier being changed to a 5x5 was part of the update. Stealth Field was also changed to a 5x5.

Skill variable cast time is removed.
Skill reuse delay is now 90 seconds.
Skill area of effect is changed from 3x3 cells to 5x5 cells.


Just as we thought. The skill cool down time was incorrect in the document, but is correct in the patch notes.

Hi. This is a temporal fix for the AoE untill a dev work on this (i did this from scratch, so it could'nt work, even so, try it)

Find in skill_db.txt

Reemplaze:
2273,0,6,4,0,0x1,5,3,1,yes,0,0,0,none,0, NC_NEUTRALBARRIER,Neutral Barrier

I saw the code and it should block properly range attacks, update your source and test.


Why did you give it a 11x11 splash AoE?


It's not just a problem of area of damage, there is the problem of immune to long range attack, too.
